About Liquid Ring Vacuum Pumps
A liquid ring vacuum pump (AKA water vacuum pump) is a component of an industrial pumping process. Its role is to form a compression-chamber seal vacuum to drive air or gas through a system. It does so by using an offset impeller in a chamber, which also has an inlet and outlet for the gas. The impeller partially dips into water or liquid contained at the base of the chamber and, due to high velocity spinning, creates a ring of that liquid around the inner walls of the chamber which applies pressure to the inlet side, thereby creating the vacuum. For more on pumps that use compression, see our piston air compressor vacuum pump and our diaphragm compressor vacuum pump.
