Dr. John Xiong has a unique vision of Australia and the world. His photographs capture the magic and beautiful moments - moments that are there for all to see, but which most let slip by unnoticed. John?s photographs are widely published by leading art publishers in Australia, Europe, and the US. John was educated in science, although photography has always been his passion. He received his PhD at the University of Goettingen, Germany in 1990 and worked at prominent research institutions as a scientist in Canada, the US, and Australia. His career as a scientist also gave him extensive opportunities to travel and to live around the world, which allowed him to explore his keen passion in photography. This gradually changed him from a scientist to a professional photographer. His scientific training has greatly helped him develop photographic techniques of his own style.
Giclee (jee-clay) is an advanced printmaking process for creating high quality fine art reproductions. The attainable excellence that Giclee printmaking affords makes the reproduction virtually indistinguishable from the original piece. The result is wide acceptance of Giclee by galleries, museums, and private collectors. Gallery wrap is a method of stretching an artist's canvas so that the canvas wraps around the sides and is secured a hidden, wooden frame. This method of stretching and preparing a canvas allows for a frameless presentation of the finished painting.
