What are Cam Locks Used For?

Keep cabinets, drawers, and more safely locked.

11/5/19 - Zoro Staff

Cam locks are a type of hardware that offers a simple locking solution, especially popular for use with office furniture such as desk drawers and filing cabinets. These locks secure items that require stowing, and can restrict access for anyone not having a key.

While a cam lock is a locking device, it is not necessarily considered to be a heavy-duty lock. It can, however, hinder the opening of cabinet doors, drawers and panels by persons who do not have the key.

Uses of cam locks

Cam locks are used in:

Office/Medical Buildings: Desk drawers, filing cabinets and supply cabinets
Public Places: Display cases, portable room dividers and mechanical panel covers
Schools: Trophy cases, storage lockers and temporary gates
Cam locks can be installed in different types of materials such as glass, metal and wood.
