About Machining Vises
A machine vise is a highly useful mechanical tool designed to hold workpieces in place during the manufacturing process. Machining vises are especially beneficial when performing applications where precision is of the utmost importance. These manufacturing tools are often used during high-speed processes where manual vises may fail due to heavy vibration. Machining vises are great at keeping workpieces stationary and lessening vibrations.
At Zoro, we carry all types of machine vises for your manufacturing plant. We stock the brands you trust most including Palmgren, Wilton, Mitee-Bite Products Inc., Dayton, Suburban, Tool-ex, and many more. Find everything you need for your facility at everyday low prices at Zoro.
Machine Vise Basics
Typically made from cast iron, machine vises are equipped with a steel jaw that holds a workplace in place while grinding, sanding, shaping, drilling, or milling. Depending on your task, machining vises come in heavy and medium-duty designs. Heavy-duty iterations have a swivel base and smooth jaws while medium-duty designs are made with one smooth and one grooved jaw. There are also specialty vises for specific applications and styles of manufacturing including CNC machining vises.
Ultra-Precision Vises
Ultra-precision vises are usually made of steel and feature one smooth and one grooved jaw. They’re a favorite among toolmakers and can be fastened to workbenches.
Self-Centering Machine Vises
Designed with jaws made to center around a workpiece, self-centering vises are ideal for drilling and grinding jobs. These vises are made with smooth jaws that are replaceable.
Any-Angle Machine Vises
Any-angle machine vises allow the user to tilt their workpiece up to 45 degrees in any direction. Users can also tilt their workpiece 90 degrees vertically to stand perpendicular to the workbench.
Cross-Slide Drill-Press Milling Vises
Made for workpieces that must be precisely centered, cross-press drill-press milling vises are ideal for light milling and drilling work. They feature one smooth and one grooved jaw and are often made from iron.
